Schenectady - Dalton G. Harvey, 72 years of age, went to his eternal rest on Monday September 21st, 2020 at Ellis Hospital, in Schenectady NY, from a sudden heart attack.
Dalton was born on November 24th, 1947 to the late Norman and Isada Harvey, in the parish of Westmoreland on the tropical island of Jamaica.
Dalton graduated from Bluefield All Age School in 1964. Following graduation he moved to Kingston, Jamaica where he pursued the carpenter trade at Harold Henry Trade School.
Dalton started his career as a self employed carpenter in Kingston, displaying a wonderful knack for solving problems and taking care of homes in his community. Dalton was presented with an opportunity to work in the US as a farm worker and immigrated to the state of Florida, in 1971. Dalton traveled back and forth from Jamaica to Florida for a few years before making it his residence in 1973. Dalton relocated to New York in 1980 to be closer to family. Following in his Dad's footsteps and his dream of entrepreneurship, Dalton opened and operated his own restaurant/entertainment facility and also owned/managed rental properties in Newburgh, NY. Dalton was passionate about his craft of carpentry and construction, where he continued working until he was forced to retire after he suffered from a stroke due to complications of diabetes in 2013.
Dalton truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; chatting with friends and family, indulging in his passion for the sport of horse racing, spending time with his wife and children. Dalton had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way.
Dalton is survived by his loving wife Yvonne Francis-Harvey, his six children, daughters; Tanya Harvey, Stacy Harvey, LaTasha Lacy and Daltonise Harvey, sons; Dean Harvey and Jacques Harvey, eight grandchildren, siblings; Marjorie Agnero Gnagne and husband Roger, Raphael Harvey and wife Doreen, Avrille Fuller and husband Robert, Denie Harvey and wife Sybil, Dorrel Harvey and wife Erica, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Predeceased by one sister Doreen Harvey.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call from 11am to 1pm on Saturday October 3rd. Funeral services will follow at 1pm in Rossi and Ditoro Funeral Home, 501 Union Street (at North Jay St) Schenectady, NY 12305.
In accordance with mandated health guidelines, masks, social distancing and occupancy limits will be observed. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Heart Association in honor of Dalton Harvey.
