NISKAYUNA - Christopher Giglio (Chris or Gigs to his close friends and family) passed away on February 10th, 2023, born on June 25th 1962 in Hornell, NY. Predeceased by his parents, Angelo and Eileen Giglio. Chris lived his life with the motto that “everything happens for a reason,” and would want all of us to remember his quick-wit, roaring laughs, and larger than life personality - he would also want us to remember the love that he shared with those closest to him. His love with his wife, Jennifer (Jayci, as he called her), was unlike any other. They were each other’s best friend and confidants - but she was also his safe space where he could show his softer side. His children, Christopher and Lauren, also brought out this side of him, but they saw his competitive nature as he pushed both of them to excel in their athletic and academic pursuits. Chris was Christopher’s basketball coach for the Niskayuna Youth Basketball Association, and was Lauren’s personal catcher as she pursued softball growing up. Chris loved his parents and missed them very much over the years, but the special bond he shared with his sisters, Lisa, Laurie, and Lucy, carried on that love and family dynamic that Chris held so dear.
Chris was also an incredible friend to so many. He was the type of person that, if he enjoyed your company, you were never leaving his life - he made sure of that. His friends from his hometown of Hornell, NY were a staple in his life that brought him immense joy. He was there for them, as well as many others, no matter the situation - you call, Chris was there to help in any capacity. His nature was to be inclusive with those he surrounded himself with, always making sure everyone was enjoying themselves. He loved to include his friends and family at some of his favorite places like Pinehaven Country Club, various business trips, the family lake house on Keuka Lake, and at his favorite haunt, 20 North Broadway. He also made sure everyone knew that he had an open-door policy at his home - many took advantage of this over the years to stop by and enjoy his infectiously positive and fun-loving personality.
Chris loved to kayak and fish with Jayci, golf with his son and nephew at Pinehaven, and have bonfires at home, and doing anything that involved being Papa to his grandson, Dakota - he loved traveling to see his sisters, going on golf trips to Mission Inn, watching basketball, softball and golf, and loved making any excuse to “just go down for one drink” at 20N when the clock struck 5pm.
Knowing Chris’ personality, it makes sense that he was an incredibly successful sales representative for Northern Supply Inc, a family business that he adored working for. He was with the company for the past 38 years, and has become an integral part of the overall success of the company - creating career relationships, but also lifelong friendships with co-workers and clients alike. While Northern Supply was a family business, his clients soon became a part of his family just the same.
Chris is survived by his incredibly loving wife, Jennifer, his daughter Lauren (Jesse Bills) and grandson Dakota, his son Christopher, his sisters Lisa Condello (Bobby), Laurie Moretti (Joe), and Lucy Alves (Jose), by his many sister and brother-in laws and nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Wednesday February 15th from 4-7 pm at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, 501 Union Street, Schenectady.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, February 16th at 9:30 am at St. John the Evangelist Church,806 Union Street. Following Mass, there will be a gathering commemorating Chris, at 20 North Broadway Tavern. Interment will be in St. Michael's Cemetery, Penn Yan, NY.
Chris loved being a basketball coach when his son was younger, and had a passion for all things sports. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you consider making a donation to the Niskayuna Youth Basketball Association in his name, c/o Gary Lagace, 64 Valleywood Dr., Glenville, 12302, or the Funeral Home.
