Niskayuna – Charles W. Lester, Jr., 86, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, April 19, 2017, after a lengthy illness.
Charles was born on October 11, 1930 a son of the late Charles and Mabelle (Downs) Lester, Sr. He was a 1948 graduate of Mt Pleasant High School and attended Union College, The University of Buffalo and later Schenectady County Community College, earning a degree in fire science. Charles honorably served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict as an MP during the Occupancy of Germany. He worked for Elliot Buick for 20 years before becoming a firefighter at the Niskayuna Fire District Station #1. Charles was a devoted father, a faithful friend and a respected member of his community.
Charles was predeceased by his wife, Sally Sutliff Lester in 2016.
He is survived by his four children, Charlene Lester, Darlene Lester, Esq., Charles W. Lester, III and Helene Lester. He also has four grandchildren, Marina Jacqueway, Jennifer Near, Rachael DeBonis and Sara Lester; five great-grandchildren, Brittyn, Briella and Everett Near, Aria and Mason James Gill.
Private services will be held.
