Catherineann "Cathy" Patierno

January 4, 1961 — January 4, 2013

NISKAYUNA- CatherineAnn "Cathy" Patierno, 52, passed away at home on Friday with her loving family at her side after nine years as a cancer fighter. She now rests in eternal glory.
Cathy was born in Schenectady on November 3, 1960, the daughter of Catherine Truscello Patierno and the late Donald L. Patierno. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School and received her Bachelor's degree from SUNY Brockport. Cathy lived and worked in the Rochester area for many years. She loved children which she demonstrated in her career as a teacher and then as an administrator in the daycare field. Cathy returned home to her family in 2002 and was diagnosed with neuro- endocrine pancreatic islet cell cancer a year later. She never wanted to be defined by her cancer and most people never knew how sick she really was. She worked up until the spring of this year at HSI in Albany. She was an intuitive and embraced holistic, and spiritual studies. Cathy's visualization in her battle against cancer was that of Wonder Woman, and she fought like a superhero. She was a miracle and inspiration to everyone who knew her. She inspired each life she touched with a positive and optimistic attitude throughout her journey.
Cathy was a wonderful daughter, sister, auntie and friend. She will always be the best Aladdin to Madi's Jasmine.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving mother, Catherine Patierno; devoted sister and brother-in-law, Maria and Tom Gilroy, of Niskayuna; cherished niece and nephew, Christopher and Vicki Gilroy, of Wilton and Beth Gilroy and her fiancé Martin O'Malley, of Brighton, MA, adoring grand nieces, Madi and Ella Gilroy; many loving relatives and friends.
Services will be held Tuesday morning at 8 am at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, at Union and N. Jay Streets, and then to St. Luke's Church, State Street where a Mass will be celebrated at 9 am with Fr. Dominic Isopo officiating. Burial will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Brandywine Avenue.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home on Monday from 3 to 7 pm.
