SCHENECTADY – Catherine Sangermano, 86, entered peacefully into eternal rest, surrounded by her loving family, on Tuesday.
Catherine was born in the mountainous town of Pietragalla, in the Providence of Potenza, Italy on April 18, 1932 a daughter of the late Maria Teo Colangelo and Guiseppe Antonio Sangermano. Immigrating to America with her family at age 6, Catherine was educated locally and graduated from Nott Terrace High School. She began her work career for the Congress Street Glove Factory; Cheltenham Avenue Dress Factory and St. Clare’s Hospital Cafeteria. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Catherine was a proud Italian American who worked hard and dedicated herself to her family and faith.
Catherine was predeceased by her sisters, Josephine Lencewicz & Antoinette and Catherina Sangermano.
She is survived by her niece and nephew, Linda and Henry Carringi and Frank Lencewicz, great-niece and great nephew, Melissa Hotaling and Brian Hotaling; two great-great nephews and one great-great niece.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 am on Friday at St. Luke’s Church, State Street. Interment will follow at St. John the Baptist Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
