Schenectady – Carmela (Carol) Isgro DiCerbo, 82 of Central Pkwy entered peacefully into the arms of the Lord on Wednesday at Ellis Hospital after a brief illness.
Born May 22, 1936 at 1936 Van Vranken Avenue, delivered into the world by her grandmother Carmela LaMachi Puliafico. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Angelo and Rosalin (Puliafico) Isgro. Carol married Michael on January 5, 1963 and raised two daughters.
Carol attended Schenectady Schools except for 5 years went to Holy Spirit School in Los Angeles, California and graduated from Nott Terrace High and Mildred Elley Secretarial School for Girls in Albany and Dental Assistant School. Carol worked for Dr. Dominic DeLuke for 2 years, Atomic Energy Commission at Knolls Atomic Power Lab for 9years in Security and Property Management as Visitor Control Clerk, where she met her loving husband, Mike of 55 years. After 24 years, in 1999 Carol retired from the City of Schenectady’s Tax Department. Retirement didn’t slow her down. She returned part time to the City of Schenectady, City Clerks office twice a week and worked as an Election Inspector for the Schenectady County Board of Election up until her death.
Carol was a very active member in her community in the following:
St. Anthony’s Church as a Eucharistic Minister, Adult Alter Server and a member of the Venerini Sisters and Sacred Heart member.
Girl Scout Volunteer, Usher at Proctors Theater, member of The Red Hat Society and held various positions with The Ladies of the Rotterdam Elks including President from 2011-2012.
Member of St Clare’s Auxiliary, County Democrats Women’s Club.
Carol’s hobbies when not with her 6 Grandchildren were, playing cards, golf, bowling, reading and bocce.
Carol was predeceased by her brother, Joseph Frederick Isgro, sister in law Philomena DiCerbo Zautner, nieces Kristen Anne Isgro. Theresa DiCerbo and Kimberly DiCerbo.
Survived by Spouse Michael Pasquale DiCerbo, daughters Michele Marie Martinelli (David), and Lisa Marie Foland (Marc). Grandchildren Dominic Augusto Martinelli, Nicholas Carter Foland, Angelo Michael Martinelli, Gino Joseph Martinelli, Julie Alexandria Martinelli and Michele Rosalin Foland. Brother Robert Anthony Isgro (Carole). Sister-in-law: Lydia DiCerbo, Rosemarie DiCerbo Conde, Carl DiCerbo (Nancy), and many cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews along with many, many beloved friends.
Relative and friends are invited to call at St. Anthony’s Church, Monday morning from 11 -1 with Mass of Christian burial to follow. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hidden Lake Girl Scout Camp and St. Anthony’s Church.
