Basil Sansalone

SCHENECTADY – Basil V. Sansalone, 88, died Friday evening at home with his loving family by his side.
Basil was born on October 5, 1921, in New York City, the oldest of 5 children, of the late Michael and Tomasina Pisani Sansalone. He served in the US Army during WWII. He retired from Blue Cross-Blue Shield in Slingerlands. He was a life member of the American Legion Post # 1005. He was an avid bowler. He bowled on several leagues for over 60 years and at the age of 81, Basil bowled a 299.
Basil lived for taking his family on a two week vacation every year, for the last 50+ years and was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church.
Basil was predeceased by his beloved wife, Lena Korson Sansalone, whom he married on June 11, 1944 and she died October 19, 2004; a son, Michael Sansalone; a son-in-law Charles M. Howarth II and a brother, Anselmo Sansalone.
Survivors include his loving daughter Grace M. Howarth of Schenectady; grandchildren, Dr. Charles B. Howarth and his wife Jennifer, Jennifer M. Williams, Regina T. and her husband Ambrose Dawson, Marie T. and her husband Ronald Polsinelli Jr., and Heather M. Sansalone; brother, Michael Sansalone; sisters, Tomasina Hanley, Marie and her husband Lee Licht; 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Thursday morning at 11 am at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, Union at N. Jay Streets. Interment to follow at Evergreen Memorial Park, Colonie.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, Thursday morning from 9 to 11.
Memorial contributions may be made in Basil’s memory to Community Hospice of Schenectady, 1411 Union St., Schenectady, NY 12308.
