Barbara J. Tremante

March 12, 1934 — June 19, 2013

SCHENECTADY – Barbara Garcia Tremante, 79, of North Jay Street, entered into eternal peace on Wednesday at Ellis Hospital, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She is now reunited with her beloved husband Silvio and devoted son Patsy.
Barbara was born in Schenectady, a daughter of the late Joseph Garcia and Mary "Mimi" DeAngelis Grzelecki. She was a graduate of Nott Terrace High School and began working for her uncle at Morrette's Steak House for over 25 years. She started her career with Schenectady County in 1976, and retired as a cleaning supervisor in 2002. She was a member of the Business Professional Women, the Vet's Club and a volunteer at Proctor's. She was a lifetime communicant of the former St. John the Baptist Church before becoming a communicant of St. John the Evangelist. Barbara's kind soul and giving spirit touched so many, she will never be forgotten. She cherished her family and friends, was an amazing cook, baker and homemaker as well as an enthusiastic Yankee fan.
To Dr. Yousuf, Dr. Goodman, the A-6 staff at Ellis Hospital and Community Hospice, thank you all for your compassion and care. Our thoughts and prayers will always be with you for the devoted work you do.
Barb was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Silvio 'Sonny' Tremante on February 23, 2007 and her son Patsy Tremante, on June 13, 2013.
Survivors include her dedicated and loving daughter-in-law, Patti Tremante; her grandchildren, who were the light of her life, Christina Tremante-Pelham and her husband Michael Pelham, Alexandria Tremante and Patrick A. Tremante, Jr ; her loving aunt, Sue Morrette; loving cousins, Joe and Pam Marsello, Toni-Jean Vitek and Rev. Thomas Morrette of Mechanicville and Stillwater. She was an amazing aunt to Susan and John Petralia, Meredith Vitek, Meredith Petralia, Lindsay Petralia and Maria Ditoro. Her years would not have been complete without her extended family, Harry and Nancy Buffardi, Anne Lepri and many dear friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:30 am at St. John the Evangelist Church, Union Street, by her dear friend, the Rev. Larry Paolicelli and her cousin Rev. Thomas Morrette. Interment will follow in the family plot, between her husband and son, in St. John the Baptist Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, Friday evening from 5 to 7 pm.
