SCHENECTADY - Antonietta Paniccia, 92, a loving, devoted, and faithful woman, entered peacefully into the arms of the Lord on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at home surrounded by her loving family.
Antonietta was born in Alvignano, province of Caserta, Italy the daughter of Nicola and Michelina Corniello Valentino. She immigrated to the United States, with her husband settling in Schenectady. Antonietta was employed in the household management department at Union College for many years. Antonietta kept a beautiful home, flower, and vegetable garden. She was extremely proud to have become an American citizen, but she never lost touch with her Italian heritage, maintaining the love to host dinners, holidays and cook her amazing dishes. She was someone who lit up the room with her smile and her presence was warming. She will always be remembered as the best mother, wife, and especially, Nonna. She was a faithful communicant of St. Anthony’s Church and a lifetime member of the Sacred Heart League; and the Madonna della Libra Society and Auriesville Shrine. The Paniccia family is grateful for the support and compassion of the Nursing Staff of Community Hospice.
Antonietta was predeceased by her parents; her first husband, Clemente Gazzillo, her second husband of 43 years, Americo Paniccia; mothers and fathers-in-law, Raffaele and Marcellina Gazzillo, and Armando and Loretta Paniccia; siblings, Maria (Louie) DeMatteo, Jimmy ( Maria) Valentino, Luigi Valentino and Aldo Valentino; brothers and sisters-in-law, Antonio, Pasquale, and Domenico, and Armando Gazzillo, Alberto Rucenti..
She is survived by her devoted sons, Armando (Nancy) Paniccia, Pasquale (Paul) Paniccia, and Rico D. (Sandra) Paniccia; daughter-in-law of Maria Di Meo; loving grandchildren, Nicholas, Michael, Jenna (Kareem) Jandali, Brandon (Cassidy Kislowski) and Pietro (Peter) Paniccia; great-grandsons, Kayden Jandali and Domenico Paniccia; loving siblings, Vittorio (Esterina) Valentino, and Rosa (Alberto) Mastroianni; sisters-in-law, Alfonzina Valentino, Anna Maria Valentino, Esperanza Gazzillo and Jena Gazzillo; brother-in-law, Luigi (Carmela) Gazzillo and Michelina and Marcello Zappoli.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 noon on Saturday at St. Anthony’s Church, 331 Seward Place. Interment will follow in St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Glenville.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call at St. Anthony’s Church on Saturday morning from 10 am until the Mass.
