SCHENECTADY - Americo Cerrone, 90, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2026, at home surrounded by his devoted family. Born October 20, 1935, in Broccostella, Province of Frosinone, Italy, he was the beloved son of the late Loreto and Loreta Iafrate Cerrone.
Americo immigrated to Schenectady in 1961, like so many seeking opportunities and a better life. He was employed by the General Electric Company for 29 years as a chipper and grinder in the Steam Turbine Department. Like many immigrants, Americo was also a talented mason and shared his skills working for Visco & Son. He was well respected for his craftsmanship. On February 10, 1963, in Italy, Americo married Maria Morzillo; together they celebrated 63 years of marriage.
Americo was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting deer and rabbits and foraging for dandelions and wild mushrooms. He took tremendous pride in maintaining an immaculate home, garden, and landscape, not only his own, but often helping family and friends as well. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his commitment to his family and the pride he took in all he did.
Americo was predeceased by his siblings, Erminia Perruzza and Dominic Cerrone.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Maria Morzillo Cerrone; his loving children, Augustine Cerrone, Nancy (Kevin) Braley, and Anna Maria Viall; his cherished grandchildren, Tom Cerrone, Marc Cerrone, Michael Viall, and Maria Viall; and his beloved great-grandchildren, Gia Cerrone and Callum Cerrone. He is also survived by his brothers, Armando Cerrone and Antonio Cerrone, along with many nieces, and nephews.
The family extends their sincere appreciation to Missy Cornell and the many Hospice workers and volunteers whose compassion and dedication allowed Americo to remain in the comfort of his home, surrounded by those he loved.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Monday, at St. Anthony’s Church Seward Place. Interment will follow in St. Anthony’s Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to call at St. Anthony’s Church on Monday from 9 to 11 am.
To honor Americo’s life and memory, please consider memorial contributions to St. Anthony’s Church or Community Hospice at communityhospice.org in lieu of flowers.
