GLENVILLE- Amelia Puglisi, 88, of Tryon Drive, died suddenly at Ellis Hospital, after being stricken.
Amelia was born January 10, 1923 in Fondachelli, Sicily, a daughter of the late Nunzio Conti and Carmella Orlando. She immigrated to America on May 17, 1955 and settled in Schenectady. She began her career with Abelove’s Linen Service and then went on to open Sicilian Beauty Salon, Van Vranken Avenue in 1968. She and her husband co-founded Carm’s Pizza on Freeman’s Bridge Road in 1971. In 1978, her and her husband co-founded Nino’s Equipment in Rotterdam. Her greatest loves was making eggplant and cookies at the family business, which she did so passionately, even last week she was vehemently carrying on the family tradition. She was an avid bowler, bowling three days a week, even bowling Wednesday night. She enjoyed traveling back to her native Sicily and she especially loved having her family with her. Living in Heritage Arms, she made many wonderful friends and enjoyed their company and playing cards.
Amelia was a longtime communicant of St. Anthony’s Church, a member of the former Women’s Sicilian Society and the Sons of Italy.
She is the wife of the late Carmelo Puglisi, they were married on January 11, 1944 and he died March 25, 2002; and siblings, Angelo, Tony and Sam Maimone.
Survivors include her devoted children, Maria (Anthony) D’Alessandro of Melbourne, FL, Frank (Terry) Puglisi of Schenectady, Evelyn (Dennis) Urys of Schenectady, Anthony (Catherine) Puglisi of Glenville, Joseph (Deborah) Puglisi of Glenville, Ron (Beth) Puglisi of Glenville; adoring grandchildren, Lori (Greg) Sadow, Janeen VanAuken, Michael (Adrienne) Puglisi, Carlo Puglisi, Renee (Jeff) Heller, Shane Albertin, Anthony Puglisi Jr., Christine (Richard) Robinson, Rhondalynn Neal, Joe (Aimee) Puglisi Jr., Jenelle Puglisi, Vinny Puglisi, James DeMasi, Kevin Puglisi, Dan Puglisi and Tom Stangle. 22 great grandchildren; siblings, Nunzio Conti of Sicily, Carmelo Conti of Sicily, Louise Gorzynski of Rotterdam and Mary Fuller of Vero Beach, FL; survivors also include many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Monday morning at 9 am from the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, Union at N. Jay Streets, then to St. Anthony’s Church, Seward Place, where a Mass will be celebrated at 10 am. Entombment will be in the Puglisi Mausoleum at St. Anthony’s Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, Sunday evening from 2 to 6 pm.
