SCHENECTADY – Alexander F. Pirrera, 74, passed away on Tuesday, May 17, at St. Mary’s Hospital, after a lengthy illness, with his loving wife at his side.
Al, or ‘Big Al’ as he was lovingly known, was born in Brooklyn, a son of Alexander and Sara Bohleber Pirrera. He graduated from Mater Christi High School in 1965 and began working for the US Postal Service. Al was drafted in 1968, serving a tour of duty in Vietnam, and was honorably discharged in 1972 with the rank of Captain. He was employed at Detroit Supply Company for ten years, until its closure and then at Lyon Metal Products, for 20 years, retiring in 2010. He also worked as a US Census Taker. Al was a member of the DAV, an avid fisherman and a NASCAR enthusiast.
Al is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Ann Marie Badagliacca Pirrera, who have been sweethearts since the age of 14; loving children, Michael, Suzanne and Andrew Pirrera; grandson, Leonardo Pirrera, brother, Louis Pirrera and a sister-in-law, Dr. Joanna Badagliacca.
Services will be held on Tuesday at 11:30 am at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, 501 Union Street. Interment with Military Honors will follow at 1:30 pm in Saratoga National Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home on Monday from 5 to 8 pm.
