ALBANY – Alex Velasco Qualey, 34, passed away as a result of a brain aneurysm on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at Albany Medical Center.
Alex was born in Yakima, WA. He graduated high school, attended college and honorably served in the US Marine Corp with several humanitarian deployments. Alex was a talented chef and staying true to his heritage, loved to cook with an Asian flair, he was given the nickname "The chef with the smile". He worked at McGregor Links and D&L Hospitality in Cohoes. Alex was a fantastic husband, father and devoted friend; an avid fisherman and a generous man. Alex always filled the room with laughter and his charismatic presence with his big smile. He always gave of himself onto others, even after his death, by giving the gift of life through his organ donations.
He is survived by his father and mother, Florexis Velasco (Evelyn) and Carla Qualey; beloved wife, Jessie Ray Qualey, whom he married on February 15, 2012; loving children, Noah, Benjamin and Malakai Qualey; siblings Fred Velasco (Riza), Relyn Strom (Adam), Florexis Velasco (Cecille), Kevin Velasco (Katie), Jake Velasco (Shahana), Candy Rexine (Ricky), Bradley Qualey and Manuel Qualey, many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, 501 Union Street, this evening (Thursday) from 3 to 7 pm.
Interment will be held in the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
