NISKAYUNA – Toni Mangino Darian, 92, died on Monday morning at Baptist Health and Retirement Center. Toni was born on September 30, 1917 in Schenectady, the daughter of the late Anthony and Luccia Nappi Mangino. She was a lifelong communicant of St. Anthony’s Church. Toni was a graduate of Nott Terrace High School and attended Siena College. During her outstanding 42 year career in the service of the United States Government, Social Security Division, Toni was the recipient of many special awards for excellent work performances. Toni was always proud of her work and developing knowledge of Social Security law and throughout her career aided many local professionals, as well as the public, with its application. Toni functioned at the end of her career as a highly regarded adjudicator. She aided Sam Stratton on his original and very successful campaign for his seat in the U.S Congress. Toni also served members of the NYS Senate and Assembly during her very exciting career. In every way Toni was always motivated, engaged and very energetic. She was competitive and competent in various activities. Toni served as director of the Schenectady Girls Club; Citizens Committee on Mental Health at Ellis Hospital and was especially cited during the Piano Fund drive linked to Musical Therapy objectives at Ellis Hospital. She volunteered for many cancer crusades, going house to house and was involved with the Muscular Dystrophy chapter in Schenectady. Toni was co-chairman of the Catholic Youth Council, day and night and her zeal and love for Catholic Youth programs were always evident in the public forum. She was acknowledge by the Leukemia Society with awards and received an American Red Cross award of merit. She dearly loved her family and will forever be held in the hearts of her family and friends. The Mangino family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Baptist Health and Rehabilitation Center for the love and compassion and the years of care that has been extended to our aunt and sister. Toni was predeceased by beloved husband Ralph Darian who died on August 10, 2009; sisters, Assunta (Susie) Mangino, Teresa Pacelli and Mary Iacobelli; brothers Jack Mangino and Nicholas Mangino. She is survived by her loving sisters, Phyllis Genter and Mollie DeLorenzo; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Services will be held Wednesday morning at 10 AM from the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, Union at N. Jay Streets, then to St. Anthony’s Church, Seward Place, where a Mass will be celebrated at 11 AM. Entombment will follow in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery Mausoleum, Niskayuna. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, this evening from 6 to 8 PM.
