SCHENECTADY – Sister Dolores V. Puglis, MPV, was called to her heavenly home in her 63rd year of Religious Life, on Monday, May 28, 2018. Born in Gloversville, a daughter of the late Thomas and Ester Mauro Puglis, Dolores graduated from Gloversville High School, class of 1951. Sr. Dolores entered the Venerini Congregation on September 3, 1955 and pronounced her first vows in 1955. Following in her Foundress path, with a motto of "Educate to Liberate", has devoted her entire religious life to teaching. Over her many years, Sr. Dolores taught in schools run by the Venerini Sisters, located in Rhode Island, Leominister, Fitchburg, Pittsfield, MA and the former St. Anthony's School as a third grade teacher. In 1989 she located to Gloversville to head Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School, until its closing in 1991. Returning to St. Anthony's, Sister became director of St. Anthony's Pre-School and After School programs. Sr. was an integral part of St. Anthony's Church community, serving as an Extraordinary Minister, initiating the Venerini Associate Program and working the annual feasta. She was a masterful seamstress and crafter. Through the grace of God and the Charisma of St. Rosa Venerini, Sr. Dolores ministered to her beloved students and all persons she encountered through prayer and her peaceful and loving presence. In addition to her parents, Sr. Dolores was predeceased by her siblings, Leonora Enfield and her husband Richard, infant brother Guy Puglis, Thomas E. Puglis and his wife Maxine and Rosalie Puglis on May 11th. She is survived by her sister, Joan Fudger, of Johnstown; her devoted Venerini Community, several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Services will be held on Friday at 9 from the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, 501 Union Street, and then to St. Anthony's Church where a Mass will be con-celebrated at 10am. Interment will follow in the Puglis family plot in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville. Relatives, friends and former students are invited and may call at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home on Thursday from 4 to 7PM Memorial contributions may be made in Sr. Dolores memory to Venerini Sisters Retirement Fund (payable to Venerini Sisters) 374 Main St., Rutland, MA 01543.
