Rose Lucille Penna

SCHENECTADY – Rose Venezio Penna, 94, of VanVranken Avenue, peacefully passed away on Sunday January 29, 2012 at her home. Rose was born in Glens Falls, May 28, 1917 a daughter of the late Ralph and Lucia Donnaruma Venezio. She moved to the Goosehill area of Schenectady at the age of four. Rose attended Oneida Junior High School and was a 1934 graduate of Nott Terrace High School. Upon graduation she went to work for her sister and brother-in-law, Philomena and Robert Palma at Palma Lumber Co. She worked from the age of 18 to 84 years old as an executive bookkeeper. In 1961 Westlawn Lanes in Guilderland was established and built. In 1963 she and her husband became sole owners of the lanes, which is still operated today by their daughter Lucy. Rose's greatest joys in life were her family and business interests. Lucy extends her deepest gratitude for the excellent and compassionate care given to her mother by, Dr. Vivianne Smith: her caregivers, Florence Cervera, Rose Baumgarten and Mary Lou DeLamora and Community Hospice of Schenectady, especially Sonya. In addition to her parents, Rose was predeceased by her beloved husband Anthony 'Tony' Penna; sisters, Frances (Eugene) DiCerbo and Filomena (Robert) Palma; brothers, James Venezio, William 'Willy' Venezio and Joseph 'Pip' (Bea) Venezio. Rose is survived by her loving daughter Lucy Penna, of Schenectady; sister-in-law Mary Venezio and several fond nieces and nephews. A Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 12 noon at St. Anthony's Church, Seward Place, relatives and friends are invited to attend.
