SCHENECTADY – Orazio D. D’Elia, 84, entered peacefully into eternal rest on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at home surrounded by his loving family. Orazio was born in San Rufo, Province of Salerno, Italy on August 9, 1936 a son of the late Vincenzo and Giovanna Balbo D’Elia. As a young man he worked in Switzerland for 15 years and on December 4, 1970, Orazio immigrated to the United States, settling with his beloved family in Schenectady. He began work as a welder for the General Electric in the Gas Turbine Division, retiring in 1998 after 27 years of service. Orazio was a man of great faith; he was truly kind, gracious and giving. He was devoted to his family and treasured the time he was able to be with them, playing cards, bocce, and celebrating holidays and life events. Orazio was a faithful communicant of St. Anthony’s Church. He was predeceased in death by his siblings, Michele, Cono, Mario, Antonio and Angelo D’Elia. Orazio is survived by his beloved wife Nicoletta Marmo D’Elia, whom he married on April 20, 1963; loving children, Vincenzo (Giovanna), Cono (Nicolina) and Giovanna D’Elia; cherished grandchildren, Orazio, Fulvio, Nicoletta, Irma, Andre, Antonio, and Liana D’Elia; siblings, Giuseppe (Maria) D’Elia, Teresa Cardiello and Maria Cobucci; sisters-in-law, Pasqualina and Rina D’Elia; many nieces and nephews. Relatives are invited to call at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home on Monday from 9 to 11 am. Services which relatives are invited to attend will be held on Monday at 11 am from the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, 501 Union Street, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anthony’s Church, Seward Place at 12 noon. Entombment will follow in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery. Due to current COVID-19 concerns, masks, social distancing and CDC guidelines must be adhered to. Memorial Contributions may be made in Orazio’s memory to Community Hospice at www.communityhospice.org or Alzheimer Disease Organization at act.alz.org or in care of the funeral home.
