ROTTERDAM – Margaret L. Paniccia, 94, formerly of Elliott Avenue, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at St. Peter's Hospital. Margaret was born in Schenectady on July 10, 1923 a daughter of the late Carmen and Jenny (Audi) DiVirgilio. She was a 1941 graduate of Mt Pleasant High School. Margaret volunteered as a Red Cross nurse during WWII. She was employed by General Electric, Macy's and Woolworth's. While at Macy's she also translated for an Italian Architect/Artist. Margaret was a passionate cook, and enjoyed her Sunday family gatherings. She was a devoted communicant of St. Paul the Apostle Church and a member of the Legion of Mary. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Silvio Paniccia. Married on June 2, 1946 they lived happily for 50 years until his death, December 15, 1996. She is survived by her loving children; Sylvia (Joseph) D'Aprile, of Colonie, Dolores (Thomas) Wojnowicz, of Jacksonville Beach, FL, Kathleen (Christopher) Wilkes, of Guilderland, David (Tris) Paniccia, of Albany, and Jacqueline Bernard, of Latham; and her nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Services will be held on Monday at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 2733 Albany Street, Schenectady. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am. Interment will follow in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to share their love for Margaret and may call at the gathering space at St Paul the Apostle Church on Monday at 9 am to 10:45am. Memorial Contributions may be made in Margaret's memory to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 1000 Elmwood Avenue, Rochester, NY 14620 and/or Chron's & Colitis Foundation, 103 Patroon Drive #10, Guilderland, NY 12804.
