SCHENECTADY – Louis DeMatteo, 91, of Foster Avenue, entered into eternal rest on Saturday at his home after a brief illness. Lou was born and educated in Schenectady, the son of the late Carmen and Gerloma Mastroianni DeMatteo. He proudly served his Country during World War II, in the Pacific Theater of Operation, as a machinist on the landing boats of the USS Centaurus AKA-17. Louis worked briefly for General Electric Company before joining the family business, DeMatteo’s Grill on the corner of Foster Avenue and Seneca Street. A selfless man, Louis worked many years at his neighborhood grill, dedicating his time and sharing his kind and compassionate ways with countless friends. He was a devoted communicant of St. Anthony’s Church. He was predeceased by his siblings, Rachel Altieri, Edward DeMatteo, Anna Ciccarelli, James DeMatteo, Arthur DeMatteo and Virginia ‘Jean’ DeMatteo. Survivors include his loving wife, Maria Valentino DeMatteo, whom he married November 4, 1957; his children, Anita and her husband Eugene Sinigalliano, of Rexford and Dean DeMatteo, of Clifton Park; a devoted grandson, James Sinigalliano; many dear nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and many wonderful friends. Services will be held Monday morning at 10 am from the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, Union at N. Jay Street and then to St. Anthony’s Church, Seward Place, where a Mass will be concelebrated at 11 am. Interment will follow in St. Anthony Cemetery, Glenville. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home Sunday from 3 to 5 pm. The family requests flowers not be sent, memorial contributions may be made in Louis’ memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; St. Anthony’s Church, 331 Seward Place, Schenectady, NY 12305; Auriesville Shrine, 136 Shrine Road, Fultonville, NY 12072 or EWTN Global Catholic Network, 5817 Old Leeds Road, Irondale, AL, 35210.
