ROTTERDAM -Joseph A. Massaroni, Sr., 76, entered into eternal peace on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 peacefully at home after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Joe was born on October 17, 1945 in Schenectady, a son of the late Joseph and Josephine Cantore Massaroni. He graduated from Mont Pleasant High School in 1963 and Oneonta State College in 1967. Joe was employed as a benefit specialist for New York State Teachers’ Retirement System, retiring after many years of dedicated service. A man of service and devotion, Joe dedicated his life to his family, faith and community. He was a lifelong communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church; a member of the Men’s Society, and active on the Parish Council, Finance Committee and Festa Committee. An avid sports fan, Joe was a member of the Schenectady Old Timers Baseball Club, and a diehard Yankee and Notre Dame enthusiast. Joe was an active member of the Order of the Sons & Daughters of Italy in America, Lodge No. 321, and attended the First Friday Group at St. Madeline Sophie and other catholic churches. Joe enjoyed traveling with his family, visiting casinos and most recently his nightly FaceTime Jeopardy competitions with his grandchildren. Joe’s admiration and love of his grandchildren was evident as he supported them in their life endeavors. In addition to his parents, Joe was predeceased by his brothers, Robert and Ronald Massaroni and a sister-in-law, Mary Lou Massaroni. Left to cherish Joe’s memory is his best friend and beloved wife of 53 years, Nancy Antonellis Massaroni; loving and devoted sons, Joseph (Kimberly) Massaroni and Gregory (Julianna) Massaroni; treasured grandchildren, Nicholas, Donato, Sophia and Isabella Massaroni; sister, Joanne (Jan) Zadoorian; sister-in-law, Santina Massaroni; brother-in-law, Joseph Antonellis; sister-in-law, Cynthia (Scott) Daly; many nieces, nephews and dear friends. Services will be held on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. from the Rossi &Ditoro Funeral Home, 501 Union Street, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Pleasant Street at 11 a.m. Entombment will follow in Sts. Cyril & Method Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Rossi &Ditoro Funeral Home, on Friday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Members of the Sons and Daughters of Italy, Lodge #321 are requested to meet at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home at 5pm for a service.
