NISKAYUNA – Duilio S. ‘Jake’ DiCocco, 93, peacefully entered into the Arms of the Lord on Monday, July 27, 2020 at home surrounded by his loving family. Duilio was born in Schenectady on September 4, 1926, in the 3rd Ward, at 33 ½ Jefferson Street, a son of the late Paolo and Ersilia (Pallante) DiCocco. He attended Nott Terrace High School and worked for ALCO and the General Electric Company. In 1950, partnered alongside his brother Paul, the two sons of Italian immigrants from Fontechiari, Italy, founded and operated DiCocco’s Luncheonette, located on South Avenue for over 50 year, serving exceptional Italian food. Duilio was always as sharp as a tack. Never referring to the luncheonette as work, Duilio greeted each customer with a smile and considered serving them his honor. The luncheonette remains a Schenectady Landmark. Duilio was an incredibly caring and proud man. Strong work ethic’s, loyalty, and responsibility, were priority with his family, friends and community. Duilio’s legacy will continue to live on through his loving family. He was a faithful communicant of St. Paul the Apostle Church. He was predeceased by his siblings, Yolanda DiCocco, Michelina Maiello, Vincenza Iovinella, Anna Tessitore and Paul DiCocco. Duilio is survived by his beloved wife of 75 years, Catherine ‘Kate’ (Gregoire) DiCocco; loving children, Paul (Janet) DiCocco, Lawrence (Patricia) DiCocco, and Roseanne (Arthur) Viscusi; ten doting grandchildren, Jennifer (James) Wilkes, Paul DiCocco (Shelley), Lauren (Todd) Defayette, Lawrence (Tracy) DiCocco, Michael (Monica) DiCocco, Christopher (Marisa) DiCocco, Alissa DiCocco (Timothy), Audra Viscusi Hedden, Duilio (Nicole) Viscusi, and, David ( Vanessa) Viscusi; twenty three great-grandchildren; his loving sister, Gloria Cuomo; many special nieces, nephews and Godchildren. The DiCocco family is grateful to Dr. William Busino, Natalie Hyde, PA-C, Dr. John Nolan, Dr. Finch, Dr. Liebers, as well as his home health aides , Betty, Vidya, Sally and Baby, for their professionalism, compassion and empathy in caring for Duilio’s and his entire family. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 am at St. Paul the Apostle Church, Albany Street. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at St. Paul the Apostle Church on Friday from 3 to 8 pm. Memorial contributions for those who wish may be made in Duilio’s memory online to the Alzheimer Association, Multiple Sclerosis or the Lupus Foundation.
