David Scavia
January 14, 1953 - December 23, 2020
PRINCETOWN – David Scavia, 67, passed away at Albany Medical Center on Wednesday, December 23, 2020, after a very brief illness. David was born in Schenectady on January 14, 1953, a son of Dominic Scavia, Jr. and the late Flora Rossi Scavia. He was a graduate of Mohonasen High School and Paul Smith’s College, receiving an AAS in Forestry Science. David was a self-taught master carpenter who could build anything and considered a project finished only when it was perfect. His great talent as a craftsman can be seen in the fine woodwork that graces the homes of family members and many others in the Schenectady area, Rockville, MD, and in the Virgin Islands where he lived for many years. He also worked in the maintenance department at Schenectady County Community College. He will be remembered as a generous and loyal friend who treated everyone with dignity. David was predeceased by his loving mother, Flora Scavia. He is survived by his loving and devoted family: father, Dominic Scavia; son, Donald (Meredith) Scavia; grandsons, Nicholas (Jess) Scavia and Josh (Samantha) Brown; siblings, Sharon (Robert) Dawes, Donald (Ellen) Scavia and Debra (Kenneth) Pennock; aunt, Marion (Gordon) Hamil; and two generations of nieces and nephews. Friends and family are invited for calling hours at Rossi &Ditoro Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 30th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Memorial contributions in David’s name can be sent to the DravetSyndrome Foundation (dravetfoundation.org) or to A Beacon Of Love (abeaconoflove.com).
