SCHENECTADY – Catherine L. Savignano, 98, entered into the arms of the Lord on Tuesday at the Ellis Residential and Rehabilitation Center. Catherine was born in Amsterdam June 24, 1913 a daughter of the late Nicola and Carmella Bursese DiGennaro. She graduated from Amsterdam High School, an attended St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Paterson, NJ, graduating in 1936. Catherine worked at the Englewood Hospital and in 1953 located to Schenectady. She taught for several years at the Ellis School of Nursing and after raising her family, returned to nursing working for the BOCES LPN Nursing Program, teaching at Mont Pleasant and Linton High Schools. Catherine was a woman of great devotion. She loved reading, belonging to a book club for Ellis Hospital employees, going to the opera, and Broadway shows. She was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Jameson and all the staff at Ellis Residential and Rehabilitation Center, Edison Wing, for their wonderful care of Catherine. Also, Community Hospice for their kindness and compassion. Catherine was predeceased by her beloved husband James Savignano; siblings, Rachel DiGennaro and Louise Dominick; many cherished brothers and sisters-in-law, especially Tony Dominick, Harry Durand, Sr. and John Zampella. She is survived by her loving son, David Savignano and his wife Debbie; she was the adoring GG to all of the children; grandchildren, Nicole Livingston and her husband Rob, Lisa Savignano, Anthony Savignano and his wife Miranda; great grandchildren, Alexia Savignano, Aiyana Livingston, Taylor and Cameron Patillo and awaiting the arrival of two more great-granddaughters; many dear cousins, nieces and nephews. Services will be held on Friday at 12 noon from the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, 501 Union at N. Jay Street, then to St. Anthony's Church, Seward Place, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 PM. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Schenectady. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, Thursday from 5 to 7 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice, 1411 Union Street, Schenectady, NY 12308.
