Carmela M. Lastarza

August 15, 1925 - August 15, 2011

SCHENECTADY- Carmela M. Lastarza, 86, entered into eternal rest, after a long illness, early Monday morning, on The Feast of the Assumption, surrounded by her loving family. Carmela was born in Schenectady on September 10, 1924, a daughter of the late Peter and Antonia Capobianco Mancini. She was a 1941 graduate of the former Nott Terrace High School and Spencer Business Institute. She was employed as a secretary for several years at the General Electric Main Plant and Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory. Carmela was a gentle and loving woman, devoted to her family, friends, her faith and the Blessed Mother. She was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist and St. Anthony’s Churches. Carmela was predeceased by her sister, Mary Cammarota and brothers, Lawrence Mancini and James Mancini. She is survived by her beloved husband whom she married October 20, 1946, Joseph Lastarza; loving sons, David Lastarza and Richard Lastarza and his wife Halina, of Schenectady and her loving daughter, Mary Elizabeth Paradis and her husband David, of Clifton Park; devoted sisters, Sylvia Palumbo and Anne Ferri, both of Schenectady; three adoring grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday morning at 11 AM at St. John the Evangelist Church, Union Street. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Brandywine Avenue. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at St. John the Evangelist Church, Wednesday morning after 10 AM. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Carmela’s memory to; Neo-Sciences Research Center at Albany Medical Center Hospital, 47 New Scotland Avenue, Albany, NY 12208 or to Community Hospice of Schenectady, 1411 Union Street, Schenectady, NY 12308.
