Michael A. Scarchilli

Michael passed away peacefully on February 24th, 2025 with his family by his side. He was born in Troy, NY to Anthony Scarchilli and Elizabeth Scarchilli (Doherty). Michael grew up in Waterford, spending summers with his family at their camp in Lake George, making treasured memories with his cousins. He graduated from Waterford High School, class of 1968, where he was fondly known as "Kisser". The following September he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and served in Vietnam. During which time he was awarded numerous medals including; Purple Heart, National Defense Service, Vietnam Service with one bronze service star, Combat Action Ribbon, and Rifle Marksman Badge. Foreign awards including; Republic of Vietnam Campaign with 1960 Device, Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation, Gallantry Cross with Palm and Frame Ribbon Bar. He was Honorably Discharged in 1970. He then settled at his forever home in Stillwater, NY, where he raised his family. Michael worked for Haughton Elevator Company and the Mohawk Paper Mill before moving onto G.E. Silicone, later known as Momentive Performance Materials, for more than 36 years. During that time he was a Pipe Fitter, served on the Fire Brigade as the safety officer, and was the President of the Union for a full term. He made life long lasting friendships while there. Michael's family took precedent over everything. Time spent with them was time well spent; it was the most important thing to him. He was happiest surrounded by his girls and grandchildren, sitting on the deck, by the pool or building a fire for all to enjoy. Many days and nights were spent in "the basement" listening to music, watching football and sharing stories. He reveled in taking long Sunday drives, and was especially fond of going out to breakfast accompanied by those he loved. Michael was not only a collector of eclectic items, but also meaningful connections with every person he came into contact with. He left an impression wherever he went. People admire him with both love and respect. He stayed true to himself, steadfast in his beliefs, no matter what life threw his way. He had a passion for adventure, many of which he shared with his family throughout the years, including frequent trips to Old Orchard Beach and Long Lake. No matter where he went, he would discover ways to explore, finding beauty in the simplistic. He appreciated all the splendor nature had to offer, some of his favorite views being the ocean line or night sky. Michael left no rock unturned, especially when it came to his homestead, nestled among 46 acres of land, where he spent countless hours trailblazing on his tractor. Michael took immense pride in all that he built for his family. Everything he touched is vibrantly alive with his spirit, his hard work and intention poured into the very foundation of his home. It was not a common occurrence to find him sitting still. Even in his retirement, much of his time was spent maintaining his property, working on projects or creating something he could share with everyone else. He enjoyed weekly visits to the American Legion in Stillwater. Michael was a mountain of a man; unwavering in his guardianship over his loved ones and everything he held dear. His smile and laugh are infectious. His strength, inspiring and withstanding. His love, tender and fierce. Michael lived life his way, sharing his various attributes with his children, and grandchildren, forging a legacy that will endure forever. He is predeceased by his parents, Anthony & Elizabeth "Betty" Scarchilli, his brother Steve Scarchilli, and the family's beloved Rose Pennucci. He is survived by his adventure partner, love of his life, and wife of 47 years, Marla. Son, Jason Creighton (Michele), three daughters, Stefhanie (Son in law Jeramy), Angela (Peter), Alexandrea (Steve), four grandchildren, George, Jay, David and Harper; God daughter, Olivia. His brother and best friend Bernie "Brother Bern" (Sister-in- Law, El), two sisters Sharon and Betty Ann (Ray). Many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family that he loved and cherished dearly. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, March 4th 2025 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at Philip J. Brendese Funeral home at 133 Broad Street, Waterford, NY 12188, followed by a service at the Saratoga National Cemetery, all are welcome.
