Linda Jane DeVivo

GLENVILLE - Linda Jane DeVivo, age 75, passed away in the early morning hours of October 8, 2023, at Ellis Hospital. Born December 26, 1947, in Plattsburgh NY; Linda was the first of Betty Prime and Gerard McGee’s two daughters. Linda grew up in AuSable Chasm, NY, and spent her younger years in the Adirondacks. As a child, Linda explored the forest, rode horseback, and helped raise her younger siblings. She graduated from Keeseville High School and maintained many childhood friendships throughout her life. Her professional life was one of service to her community. She attended nursing school at Mary McClellan School of Nursing in Cambridge and worked in several nursing homes and hospitals, often as a charge nurse. She ended her career as a private duty nurse assisting the elderly in their homes. Linda’s lifelong love of animals started with a barnyard full of cats and a spirited horse named Toni. Linda even swam with Pandora, a therapeutic dolphin in the Florida Keys. Linda’s adoration of her husband was steady, but she joked that Georgie the cat was her special mister. Linda’s health complications necessitated her final years be spent at the Glendale nursing home in Glenville, NY. Her husband’s daily love and devotion were a source of joy and comfort for her. He was her rock. She thrived on his love, attention, and unending companionship. Her belief in a higher power coupled with an appreciation of simple joys (a favorite Gun Smoke rerun, butternut squash from the Glenville Queen, Elvis classics, and kind words from familiar caregivers) sustained Linda’s spirits. Linda was preceded in death by her parents Betty and Gerard and her stepfather William Sullivan Sr. as well as her three older brothers, Robert Sullivan, WilliamSullivan Jr., and Donald Sullivan Jr. Linda is survived by her loving husband of nearly 30 years, Steven DeVivo of Scotia NY, his daughters, Susan Jones and Stephanie Hoyt of Dallas, TX, and their children: Miles, Riley and Reagan. Linda grew up in a large family. She leaves behind her younger siblings Anne Sullivan of Pipersville PA, Kathleen Sullivan and Sarah Murphy of Long Island NY, John Sullivan of Las Vegas, NV, Carolyn Sullivan & Joan Sullivan of Key West FL, Debra Marsha, and Jerry McGee of Port Kent NY. There are countless extended relatives. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday night at 5:30 p.m. at Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, 501 Union Street, Schenectady, with Fr. Richard A. Carlino, officiating. Linda will have a private burial with a final resting place In St. Anthony's Cemetery, Glenville. Memorial donations can be sent to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society at 421 New Karner Road, Albany, NY, 12205. Linda is remembered as a powerhouse of positivity.
