Catherine M. 'Kate' DiCocco

NISKAYUNA – Catherine M. ‘Kate’ DiCocco, 96, passed away peacefully, on a glorious morning, May 10, 2023, surrounded by her family. Kate was born on Christmas Day, 1926, the daughter of John and Anna (Turk) Gregoire. She attended Schenectady schools. As a teenager, she loved to roller-skate, where she met her husband Duilio ‘Jake’ DiCocco. They married on January 14, 1945. After raising their children, Kate joined Jake cooking at DiCocco’s Luncheonette, serving their loyal customers for many years. When Kate wasn’t at the luncheonette, you would find her at Saratoga or Gulfstream Race Tracks or the casino playing the slot machines. Kate worked hard and played hard, leaving many great stories and memories to share; but she most treasured her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and never missed serving them a Sunday dinner. She was a faithful communicant of St. Paul the Apostle Church. She was predeceased by her husband of 75 years, Duilio DiCocco, loving daughter-in-law, Patricia; siblings, William and John Gregoire, Florence Crandall, Helen Pazckowski, Rosemary Davis, Esther DiSalvatore, Marie Mashuta, Dorothy Valerio and Dolores Relyea. Kate is survived by her loving children, Paul (Janet) DiCocco, Lawrence DiCocco, and Roseanne (Arthur) Viscusi; grandchildren, Jennifer (James) Wilkes, Paul (Shelley) DiCocco, Lauren (Todd) Defayette, Lawrence (Tracy) DiCocco, Michael (Monica) DiCocco, Christopher (Marisa) DiCocco, Alissa (Timothy) Diamond, Audra Viscusi Hedden, Duilio (Nicole) Viscusi and David (Vanessa) Viscusi; twenty three great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and Godchildren. The DiCocco family is grateful for the many years of care from Natalie Hyde and the late Dr. William Busino. Also, much appreciation for her home care health aides, Betty, Vidya, Sally and Baby; and Kingsway Arms Nursing Center, especially the ‘B’ wing staff , for the care they provided. A Mass of Christian Burial, to which relatives and friends are invited to attend, will be celebrated at 11 am on Tuesday at St. Paul the Apostle Church, Albany Street. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to remember Kate in a special way, may make memorial contributions in her memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital at st.jude.org; Schenectady City Mission at citymission.com/donate or Jack’s Place at www.jacksplace.org.
